Papua New Guinea poliovirus outbreak

Papua New Guinea poliovirus outbreak

The World Health Organization has confirmed that poliovirus is circulating once more in Papua New Guinea after 18 years of being polio-free. As polio is a highly infectious disease which transmits rapidly, there is a potential for the outbreak to spread across the country, or even into neighbouring countries, unless swift action is taken.

Therefore, travellers applying for a Schengen visa, who are residing in PNG or Papua Province for 4 weeks or longer must have a documented polio vaccine ( in the form of an International Certificate of Vaccination or Prophylaxis) within 4 weeks to 12 months prior to international travel.
