XXII Week of the Italian Language in the World

The XXII edition of the Week of the Italian Language in the World (SLIM) opens next week. The

The initiative, which will take place from 17 to 22 October, is yearly promoted by the MAECI, in collaboration with its traditional partners in Italian language promotion (MI, MUR, MiC, CePeLL, Accademia della Crusca, Dante Alighieri Society, Swiss Embassy, RAI, Treccani and CGIE), under the High Patronage of the President of the Republic, and is coordinated by the Embassy of Italy in Australia, in cooperation with all the subjects involved in the promotion of Italian language and culture all over the Country.

In the context of what has been proclaimed the “European Year of Youth”, the Week is primarily addressed to the new generations this year, the theme being, in fact, “L’italiano e i giovani. Come, scusa? Non ti followo!“.

“L’italiano e I giovani” (Italian language and young people) intends to explore the ways in which the various languages and means of communication are evolving from generation to generation; and it is precisely this linguistic declination of the annual theme of the event that finds its dimension in the context of the National Conference of Italian teachers in Australia, a national event to be held on Saturday, 22 at the end of a Week that will see the Italian Network engaged in the organization of a rich program of events throughout the Australia.

The program will include conferences, exhibitions, theatrical performances, concerts, musical and opera events, initiatives related to our cuisine, training courses, competitions and much more.

For all the proposed initiatives, it is possible to consult the institutional websites of the consulates and of the Italian Cultural Institutes operating in Australia.

As for all the activities directly coordinated by the Embassy of Italy, we recall, in addition to the National Conference of October 22 in Perth, co-organized by the Embassy of Italy, the Consulate of Perth and the Italian Cultural Institute of Melbourne, some other events scheduled for the Capital Territory. These events include:

  • On 19 October students of different grades of the Yarralumla Bilingual School will perform in Italian in front of parents and relatives
  • On 19 October at 5pm in the bilingual school of the Capital there will be a conference for italian teachers entitled “Beyond the monolingual paradigm: translanguaging and multilingualism in the Italian language classroom” by Prof. Francesco Ricatti, Convenor Italian Program, ANU, in collaboration with ACT Italian Teachers Network and Australian National University Italian Program.
  • Two special days dedicated to the exhibition of Italian books at the bilingual school of Yarralumla from Wednesday 19 to Thursday 20 October;
  • It will take placeThe preliminary stages of the Italian competition “Premio Italia“, a language contest for university students (award ceremony on 22 October in Perth).
