On the eve of \u201cWorld Bee Day\u201d, on Friday May 19 the Italian Ambassador\u2019s Residence hosted an educational event on the role of bees and more generally of the pollinating insects for the sustainability of our Planet.<\/p>\n

The event started with a tour of the beehives hosted in the Residence\u2019s gardens, curated by Cormac Farrell<\/strong>, a renowned beekeeper, and continued with the screening of the short film \u201cBee my Job<\/a>\u201d which tells the story of a young Senegalese beekeeper in Piedmont.<\/p>\n

Juanita Rodriguez<\/strong>, senior scientist at CSIRO and Federica Turco<\/strong>, head of Australia’s national insect collection, explored the sensitive issue of the survival of pollinating insects in urbanized and\\or densely populated areas, and the impact their disappearance could have in terms of biodiversity.<\/p>\n

The event, which concluded with a tasting of dishes prepared using honey from the Residence\u2019s hives, was attended by personalities from the world of research, the international diplomatic network, government officials, members of the Italian community in Australia and members of the public.<\/p>\n

“The seminar, which was an opportunity to discuss these topics with experts and general public alike, was a great success and we are delighted that it was included in the programming of the 2023 Sustainable Development Festival, organized by ASVIS with the support of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs,” commented the Embassy of Italy\u2019s Scientific Attach\u00e9, Professor Marco Lazzarino<\/strong>.<\/p>\n
