The VII Week of Italian Cuisine in the world has ended

The seventh edition of the “Week of Italian Cuisine in the World”, the annual review of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation dedicated to the Italian culinary tradition, took place from 14 to 20 November.

Through topical issues, such as food sustainability, innovation in the kitchen and the link between products and the territory, the program of events in Canberra aimed to promote the authenticity of Italian products and recipes and our Country as a privileged food and wine destination.   Among the initiatives:

Design Diplomacy: in collaboration with Craft ACT, the non-profit organization responsible for the Design Canberra Festival – the largest annual design festival in the Australian capital.

The Ambassador’s Residence hosted an informal dialogue between guests from the world of catering, design and Italian entrepreneurship. Through the sharing of anecdotes and life experiences, the speakers showed how, nowadays, design has profound influences on the culinary environment, such as, for example, in the design of kitchen appliances, in the manufacture of tableware and in the plating art. Italian-Australian Chef Danny Russo gave a hands-on demonstration, preparing refreshments at the end of the conversation.

“Italian dinner” at “Pialligo Estate”: in collaboration with the Italian Trade Agency of Sydney, the Embassy organized a dinner at one of the most suggestive locations in Canberra.

The menu, based on DOC and DOCG Italian products, was served with traditional Italian recipes reinterpreted in a modern key. The special guest was the well-known Chef Luca Ciano, who before dinner offered the guests an interesting cooking show on the use of products such as Prosciutto di Parma and Parmiggiano Reggiano. The event was also attended by the manager of the Enit office in Sydney, who, between one course and another, showed the guests the scenic and gastronomic beauties of the Bel Paese.

Film “The truffle hunters”: screened at the Kambri Cinema of the Australian National University, follows the story of a group of men in Piedmont in search of the unobtainable Alba truffle.

The culinary theme is approached from the point of view of the Italian gastronomic tradition – truffle picking is still a culture handed down for generations – and the documentary delicately explores the devastating effects that climate change and deforestation have on this centuries-old tradition.

Regional Italian cuisine in Australia: The ComItEs of Canberra, in collaboration with the local Italian associations and in the presence of the Ambassador Crudele, organized an evening dedicated to the Italian regional food and wine varieties held at the Italian Cultural Centre. With typical products, the various associations have created recipes aimed at promoting the extraordinary diversity and uniqueness of each Italian region.
