This year’s celebration for the “Festa della Repubblica” has once again proved to be one of the most eagerly awaited events in Canberra’s political-diplomatic community and Italian-Australian audience, especially after the restrictions that have severely limited the number of participants in the previous years. Thanks to the support of Intesa San Paolo and other Italian companies, as well as the active contribution of the Embassy’s staff, it was possible to organise an evening reception at the official Residence attended by around 200 guests, Australian Ministry representatives, local authorities and various federal institutions in Canberra.
The evening, opened together with the Head of Protocol of this “Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade”, highlighted the many shared visions between the two Countries, in the Indo-Pacific context and with respect to the the conflict in Ukraine, emphasizing their common commitment to observe the principles of territorial integrity, democracy, respect for international law, which has characterised both Rome and Canberra since the conclusion of World War II.

This was also an opportunity to recall the importance of the large Italian community in the country, which has contributed so much to Australia’s wealth and prosperity. During the evening, 4 OSI honours were awarded, in a much appreciated ceremony that was organized together with Comites in Canberra.

Iconic landmarks across Australia were also illuminated with the colours of the Italian flag.
