The Ambassador of Italy in Australia, Paolo Crudele, celebrated the Italian National Day in Canberra, putting the excellence of Made in Italy and Rome’s candidacy for Expo 2030 at the centre of the day.

The event was attended by a large number of members of the diplomatic corps, representatives of important Italian companies as well as the Italian-Australian community, including the member of the General Council of Italians Abroad (CGIE) Franco Papandrea and the President of the local Comites (Committee of Italians Abroad), Franco Barilaro.
On the Australian side, Trade Minister Don Farrell and Labour Senator Raff Ciccone, chairman of the Italian-Australian Parliamentary Friendship Group, attended the ceremony. During his speech, Minister Farrell stressed the importance of the relationship with Italy and Australia’s firm desire to conclude the Free Trade Agreement with the European Union in the coming weeks.

In his speech, Ambassador Crudele dwelt on the founding values of the Italian Republic and the Constitution, recalling how the Italian community residing in Australia represents a point of reference for the culture and outlook of modern multicultural Australia. “A well attended and heartfelt event enriched by the prominent presence of Trade Minister Farrell, testifying to the lively attention with which Australia looks at Italy and Europe as privileged partners in the field of Western democracies”. The Italian National Day celebrations in Canberra continued on Sunday 4 June with the Festa Italiana, a popular convivial event organised by the Canberra Comites together with the numerous expressions of local Italian associations.
