THE EMBASSY OF ITALY IN CANBERRA PRESENTS: THE 7TH WEEK OF ITALIAN CUISINE IN THE WORLD

From 14 to 20 November the seventh edition of the “Week of Italian Cuisine in the World” will take place in Australia. This is an annual initiative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation dedicated to the Italian culinary tradition.

The events that will be organised in Canberra are aimed at promoting the authenticity of Italian products and recipes and at promoting Italy as a food & wine destination. Key topics will include food sustainability, innovation in the kitchen and the link between products and territory.

Some of the activities will be:

• Design Diplomacy: in collaboration with Craft ACT, the non-profit organization responsible for the Design Canberra Festival – the largest annual exhibition on Design in the Australian Capital Territory – an informal dialogue among representatives of Italian hospitality, design and business community will take place at the Ambassador’s Residence. Sharing personal anecdotes and life experiences, the speakers will show how the culinary environment is strongly affected by design, for example in the design of kitchen appliances, in the manufacture of tableware and in art of plating. On the latter, the Italian-Australian Chef Danny Russo will give a practical demonstration, preparing refreshments at the end of the conversation.

• “Italian dinner” at “Pialligo Estate“: in collaboration with the Italian Trade Agency in Sydney, the Embassy will organize a dinner at one of the most fascinating locations in Canberra. The menu, based on Italian DOC and DOCG products, will see traditional Italian recipes reinterpreted in a modern key. Special guest will be the well-known Chef Luca Ciano, who, before dinner, will offer guests an interesting masterclass on the use of products such as Prosciutto and Parmesan. The event will also see the participation of the director of the Italian Tourist Board, who, between courses, will show diners the scenic and gastronomic beauties of the Bel Paese.

• Screening of the movie “The truffle hunters“: the film, which will be shown on Thursday 16 November at the Kambri Cinema of the Australian National University, follows the story of a group of men in Piedmont in search of the unobtainable Alba truffle. The culinary theme is addressed from the point of view of the Italian gastronomic tradition – the harvesting of truffles is still a culture handed down for generations – and the documentary delicately explores the devastating effects that climate change and deforestation have on this centuries-old tradition.

• Italian Regional cuisine in Australia: The ComItEs of Canberra, in collaboration with local Italian associations and in the presence of Ambassador Crudele, will organize an event at the Italian Cultural Center dedicated to regional food and wine varieties. Using typical products, the associations will create recipes aimed at promoting the extraordinary diversity and uniqueness of each Italian region.
