Message of the Ambassador of Italy to Australia, H. E. Nicola Lener :
I am honoured to represent Italy in Australia. Our two nations share a strong commitment to the values of democracy and freedom, as well as deep and enduring ties of friendship, expressed both at the bilateral and multilateral levels. Australia is a partner of growing importance for Italy in the Indo-Pacific region, a global crossroads of commercial and geostrategic interests.
In this Region, the Embassy is also responsible for five secondary accreditations: Papua New Guinea, Solomon Islands, Vanuatu, Nauru and the Republic of Fiji, Countries with which we share the pressing challenge of climate change and a commitment to reducing harmful emissions.
Although Canberra is geographically distant from Rome, our bonds are strong, thanks in particular to a vibrant Italian community and Australians of Italian descent, who have made a significant contribution to shaping contemporary Australian identity. Together with the Italian consular network across the Country, which includes Consulates General in Sydney and Melbourne and Consulates in Brisbane, Perth, and Adelaide, we are fully committed to further strengthening our economic, scientific, and cultural relations, with a forward-looking approach and special attention to younger generations.
