THE EMBASSY OF ITALY IN CANBERRA PRESENTS “THE WEEK OF THE EXTRAORDINARY ITALIAN TASTE”

From today to Sunday 29 November 2020, the Embassy of Italy will host the fifth edition of the “Week of the Extraordinary Italian Taste”, an initiative of Italy’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation aimed at celebrating and promoting the tradition and culture of Italian cuisine. This year’s theme is “Sapere e Sapori of the Italian territory”, with a particular focus on the relationship between Italian products and the land they come from.

All the events in Canberra will be presential, yet held in full respect of the restrictions due to the pandemic. There will also be relevant guests and experts who will participate via videoconference, metaphorically bridging the geographical distance between Italy and Australia.

During the event Food in Space on Tuesday November 24, the guests will experience an incredible culinary journey featured by the ‘space stories’ of two astronauts: the Australian-American Paul Scully-Power and the Italian Paolo Nespoli. It will be a unique opportunity to reflect about the new frontiers of research and exploration of the outer space and their implications in terms of efficiency in resources production, circular economy as well as food security on Earth.

Some “sweet” secrets of the healthy lifestyle will most likely be revealed during Wellness all’Italiana on Thursday November 26 that will underscore the role of indoor and outdoor sport activities and the nutritional benefits of the Mediterranean diet.

On Friday November 27 prominent Italian and Australian panellists will discuss the mutually beneficial connection between Geographical Indications and Regional tourism, with a degustation of delicious GIs from Italy. This subject is very dear to Italian Authorities and it is one the most important ones in the negotiations of the EU-Australia FTA.

Canberrans will obviously have the opportunity to enjoy amazing Italian food during the week. The iconic Pialligo will also host an Italian night on Wednesday November 25. Moreover, Agostinis Italian Restaurant on Tuesday November 24 and Molto Italian on Thursday November 26 will open their doors to general public to celebrate the renewal of the brand Ospitalita’ Italiana’ (‘Italian Ospitality’). They are currently the only two restaurants in town to hold such a prestigious award that certifies high standards of quality.

The initiative is also celebrating Italian cinematography. On Saturday November 28 the film Quanto basta (‘Just enough’) will present a moving story which narrates the profound friendship between two special Italian chefs.

“The Week of the Extraordinary Italian Taste” will be celebrated across Australia with a number of events organized by the network of Italian Consulates in partnership with Italian Chambers of Commerce, the Italian Trade Agency and Italian Institute of Culture in Sydney.
