INFORMATION NOTICE – PRESS CONFERENCE TO LAUNCH “italiana” PORTAL CELEBRATING ITALIAN LANGUAGE CULTURE AND CREATIVITY WORLDWIDE (4 March 2021, 15.00 CET)

On Thursday, 4 March 2021, at 15.00 (CET), the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation will hold a press conference, in virtual format, to launch its new portal called italiana celebrating Italian language, culture and creativity worldwide (italiana.esteri.it).

The live-streamed press conference will be opened by the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Luigi Di Maio.

italiana is a project developed by the Foreign Ministry to promote Italian language, culture and creativity worldwide, with the Ministry engaged in the twofold role of promoter and producer, as well as direct supporter, of cultural activities and initiatives via its online platform, the audio-visual channel Vimeo, a Newsletter and its social media. A brand-new tool for showcasing a creative, dynamic and varied Country.

The Minister’s opening address will be followed by a conversation between the Central Director for the promotion of Italian culture and language, Cecilia Piccioni, and the journalist and author Loredana Lipperini, about the italiana project and its exclusive contents produced by the Foreign Ministry: 39 videos of drama, music, dance and circus projects made in connection with the programme called Vivere all’Italiana sul palcoscenico e in musica, developed in partnership with the Ministry of Culture, calling for theatrical and musical (classical and Jazz) representations of the Italian lifestyle; 10 clips of Female Portraits, created with the Premio Solinas Award, about how women inspire Italian society; the podcasts of the Music and the Cities project, with Raffaele Costantini and Studio 33, an account in music of their travels through the country; the documentaries of JazzLife, with a capital J, with Umbria Jazz, celebrating the great Italian Jazz tradition and the beauty of Umbria. As well as the many anniversaries marked in recent years, with the video Testimonials of Testimonials produced by Studio Azzurro for the 2021 Remembrance Day; and future projects too, with the presentation by italiana of a packed calendar of book releases via a magazine-newsletter, from March, with events related to the 700th anniversary of the death of Dante Alighieri, and lots more besides…

The key topic of the conference will be the new challenges faced by Italian culture, language and creativity abroad and the importance of networking, with video contributions by Paolo Fresu (musician), Michela Murgia (author), Marianna Vitale (chef), besides representatives of the network of Italian Institutes of Culture and many Italian educational centres, archaeological missions and scholarship projects supported by the Foreign Ministry.

The new portal, in fact, has been designed to promote and develop the Foreign Ministry’s cultural network, a virtual forum where visitors can find up-to-date information about the activities of the 82 Italian Institutes of Culture abroad, Italian language schools, lectureships, archaeological missions and Unesco-related activities and the World Heritage sites in Italy.

One of the opening features of the event will be the screening of the video “L’Italia non è mai stata così vicina” (Italy has never been so close) produced by the Foreign Ministry for the launch of italiana  and made by Think Cattleya.

The press office of italiana.lingua cultura creatività nel mondo is provided by Ex Libris Comunicazione.

The event will be live streamed on the YouTube channel of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation (https://www.youtube.com/user/MinisteroEsteri), the www.esteri.it portal and the websites of the 128 Italian Embassies and 82 Italian Institutes of Culture abroad.
