On 3 October 2022, the President of the Lombardy Government, Attilio Fontana, signed in the presence of the Governor of Victoria, Linda Dessau, a Memorandum of Understanding on a Strategic Partnership.
The signing of the protocol comes after an intense activity of strengthening institutional, economic and commercial relations between the Lombardy Region and Victoria promoted and supported by the Embassy of Italy in Canberra and the Consulate General of Italy in Melbourne.
The Memorandum confers stategic depth to the cooperation between the Lombardy Region and the State of Victoria in the following sectors:
· sustainable economic recovery and growth;
· waste management and circular economy;
· agricultural and food industries;
· defence and aerospace;
· cultural and creative industries;
· sport;
· vocational training & techincal and further education.
The strategic partnership will serve as a platform to activate the many complementarities between the Lombardy & Victorian economic systems and will further elevate the existing Sister City relationship between Comune di Milano & the City of Melbourne, the 20th anniversary of which will be celebrated in 2024.
