The awards presented each year by the Australian Academy of Sciences to Australian researchers who have most distinguished themselves for their contribution to the advancement of scientific knowledge were announced today. Among the 22 awardees this year is an Italian researcher.
Raffaella Demichelis, Associate Professor at Curtin University, received the 2023 Dorothy Hill Medal, dedicated to young researchers in the early stages of their careers.
Prof. Demichelis received the prestigious award for her research aimed at understanding the nucleation phenomena underlying mineral crystal formation.
Her discoveries will find application in many areas of science and technology, ranging from carbon dioxide capture to kidney stone formation, from coral reef conservation to the optimisation of chemical-industrial processes.
We warmly wish our compatriot continued success on this path.
