Last night, the Ambassador of Italy to Australia, Paolo Crudele, inaugurated the 2023 edition of the Italian Film Festival at the Palace Electric Cinema in Canberra. The Festival, which runs in all major Australian cities until October 25th, shines a spotlight on the dynamism and innovative contributions of contemporary Italian filmmakers. Renowned Italian directors such as Paolo Genovese, Nanni Moretti, and Michele Placido will share the screen with emerging talents, offering fresh and captivating narratives.
The Festival will also be an opportunity to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the legendary actor and filmmaker, Massimo Troisi, by presenting timeless classics such as “Nothing Left to Do But Cry,” “I’m Starting From Three,” “Splendor,” and the award-winning “The Postman.”
The opening night featured the film “Last night of Amore,” a police thriller directed by screenwriter-director Andrea Di Stefano, starring Pierfrancesco Favino.
“This is one of the most important Italian film festivals in the world,” Ambassador Crudele said, “and a unique opportunity to promote both Italian culture and language in Australia. We are delighted to be partners in this initiative, along with the Cultural Institutes of Sydney and Melbourne, and we thank Palace Cinema for organizing once again a festival entirely dedicated to our film industry.”
