“Musei Italiani”, a new app for Italian Museums

The Italian Ministry of Culture has recently launched the first version of “Musei Italiani,” an application that provides users with information about Italy’s national museums and allows for the digital purchase of tickets.

The app offers details on 406 Italian museums and archaeological parks, in Italian and in English, and geolocates cultural sites for the visitor, eliminating intermediary costs.

Available for free on major platforms, the app has already issued over 3 million tickets and will gradually be extended to all state public museums and other cultural sites.

New features, such as recommended itineraries and audioguide services, are being developed to enhance the visitor’s experience.

The app launch, funded by the PNRR (Italy’s National Recovery and Resilience Plan), marks significant progress in the digitalization of Italian museums and aims to highlight lesser-known cultural sites, diversifying tourist flows. In 2023, Italian museums recorded nearly 58 million visitors, a 23% increase compared to 2022.
