The Embassy is participating in the ‘Orange the World: End Violence against Women Now!’ campaign, promoted by Un Women, which will involve civil society through sixteen days of initiatives.Yesterday, Ambassador Crudele inaugurated a red-painted bench to show the commitment to fight gender-based violence on this important international day.
‘It is my pleasure and honour to inaugurate on this symbolic date the red bench, which invites us to reflect on the empty place left in society by the many women victims of feminicide,’ said Ambassador Crudele in front of the personnel of the Office.
‘In line with what Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Tajani said, it is necessary to oppose any act of violence or discrimination and at the same time support every effort towards full gender equality, the protection of the right to education and equal opportunities for women and girls to enter the labour market’.
Following this, some of the women’s representatives of the Embassy of Italy participated to the bicycle ride promoted by the Belgian Embassy to raise awareness on this issue.
On the occasion of the Italian Presidency of the G7, Italy decided to dedicate special attention to the topic.
A specific moment was held today at the G7 ministerial meeting in Fiuggi – Anagni, when the G7 foreign ministers paid homage to the city of Fiuggi with a red bench.
In parallel, the facade of the Farnesina was also illuminated in orange.
