On April 3, 2025, the Consul of Italy for Queensland and the Northern Territory, Luna Angelini Marinucci, and the Executive Director of Global Engagement at the Department of Education International Queensland, Ms. Simone Fuller, signed the renewed Memorandum of Understanding on Educational Cooperation between Italy and Queensland.
The signing served two key purposes: firstly, to strengthen the historic partnership—spanning over 30 years—between the Department and the Consulate, originally established through the “Studitalia” award. Since 1994, this program has enabled secondary school students from Queensland to undertake a four-week Italian language study in Italy. Secondly, the renewal introduced several significant innovations. These include expanding the scope of school cooperation, fostering partnerships between twinned schools, promoting study tours for students and teachers, encouraging the ongoing study of Italian language and culture from primary through secondary school, and offering professional development opportunities for educators.
The Memorandum aims to enhance collaboration and exchanges through the creation of a non-binding annual Action Plan. This plan will be overseen by two “Contact Officers,” one from each party, responsible for coordinating the activities conducted under the Agreement.
Consul Luna Angelini Marinucci, known for her steadfast support of all school initiatives linked to the Ente Gestore Co.As.It. – ILC, which operates in over 80 schools across Queensland, expressed her satisfaction with the renewal’s terms and commended the pragmatic approach reflected in the current wording of the Agreement.
