International Literary Competition ‘Premio Italia Radici nel Mondo’

The Town Council of Torricella Peligna (CH), within the framework of the John Fante Festival cultural festivals “My Father’s God” and the Small Festival of Migrations and Culture, has launched a literary competition for unpublished short stories, addressed to Italian or Italo-descendant authors living abroad.

The competition, better described on the dedicated page on the John Fante Festival website (https://www.johnfante.org/premio-italia-radici-nel-mondo-2024-i-edizione/), aims to broaden the discussion on the themes of Italian emigration and the link between Italians in Italy and their compatriots abroad. The theme of the competition, in its first edition, is “My Multiple Roots”.

The competition jury will be chaired by anthropologist Vito Teti and formed by the prize’s creators, Giovanna Di Lello and Giuseppe Sommario, as well as personalities from the publishing world, writers and emigration experts. The jury will select 10 semi-finalist works, 3 finalist works, which will be offered publication through the John Fante Festival channels. On top of this the winning work will also receive a cash prize of €1,000.

Call for entries closes on 31 May.

The initiative is one of the many activities for the 2024 dedicated to the – Year of Italian Roots in the World in fact several other events related to this tipic are planned in the region . The announcement of the semi-finalists will take place during the Piccolo Festival delle Spartenze (8-11 August). The announcement of the winner, on the other hand, will take place during the John Fante Festival (22-25 August). An award ceremony for the winner will also be organised afterwards.
